Windows 7 RC released recently and we were roaming around the websites to find latest news about windows 7 RC. F-secure a famous anti virus software and internet security tools company stated in their web blog that Windows 7 fails, we were shocked and like to know the threat.Still Windows 7 in release candidate Microsoft may be patching their security holes in forth coming releases. The threat is simple but it is dangerous.

F-Secure says that “In Windows NT, 2000, XP and Vista, Explorer used to Hide extensions for known file types. And virus writers used this “feature” to make people mistake executables for stuff such as document files”.

The trick was to rename FILE.EXE to FILE.TXT.EXE or FILE.JPG.EXE and windows will hide file extension (.EXE) by default, which allows virus writers to change the icon inside the executable to look like the icon of a text file or an image.

While checking in DOS mode the virus file resembles like FILENAME.TXT. EXE which is an executable format but in windows explorer it shows like a text file.

If user clicks the file, virus program will be invoked and system gets affected.
