Move the Menu Bar above Address Bar in IE 8

If you are using Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 or Internet Explorer 8.0 you can notice menu bar below address bar. In lower version of Internet Explorer and other browsers you can see address bar below menu bar.

In this post we like to share how to move standard tool bar and menu bar above address bar by editing Windows registry.

Before modification Windows registry Internet Explorer 8.0 or 7.0 looks menu bar below address bar.

Steps to edit Windows registry.

  1. Click Start –> Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser

    Note If the WebBrowser key does not exist, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Right-click Toolbar, point to New, and then click Key.
    2. In the New Key #1 box, type WebBrowser, and then press ENTER.
  3. Right-click WebBrowser, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. In the New Value #1 box, type ITBar7Position, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click ITBar7Position, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor and then start Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8.0
