Opera unveiled its new technology called “Opera Unite” which acts as a personal web server in a web browser. This new technology will be enabled with forth coming version Opera 10, today the need of Internet is high and many middlewares (Servers) are needed to host a web pages, media files, file and photo sharing.

To overcome the high usage of middlewares (Servers), Opera unite new technology will be a perfect choice.

Opera states that “The technology in Opera Unite uses a compact server inside the Opera desktop browser to share data and services on your computer”.

Benefits according to Opera user guide :

Opera Unite is a collaborative technology that allows you to share data, such as files or photos, directly from your computer with others, without uploading and sharing them through a central, third-party server. You can control over with whom you are sharing your files or data.

Difference between traditional data sharing and Opera Unite data sharing.

Opera unite explains easily about traditional data sharing, where a middleware is needed to transmit a file or data from one end to another.

Opera Unite allows users to share their files directly from one end to another end without middleware.

Opera Unite Services provides six services(Opera Unite page, File Sharing, Fridge, Photo Sharing, Media Player, Web Server, The Lounge) currently and in future there will be lot of features in Opera Unite Services.

We have installed Opera Unite and tested with some of the features. Opera Unite asks first to sign up for an account after that it configures separate sub domain for every users for example (http://home.username.operaunite.com) Opera Unite automatically configures DNS settings, if you are using dynamic IP also it configures with your PC whenever you are connected internet. If  your are running slow internet opera unite will not be a good service for transferring data or file with your friends from one end to end.

If you install Opera Unite directly from Opera labs you will be getting all those six services built in, where you can get by clicking on panel as shown below picture.
